Weekly Market Review

Good afternoon,

In deference to Larry the Cable Guy, I’m titling this message “The Git-R-Done WMR.” I could have also deferred to Nike and said “Just Do It.”

I’m a self help junkie, have been forever, reading, watching, listening to various sources who preach about getting better/smarter/faster/stronger/richer/healthier/more efficient and so forth. FWIW, my therapist and I are working on the inadequacy issues. Be that as it may, some advice is better than others, but I don’t really know if any of it actually works. I wonder how different I’d be had I NOT done all that homework.  Anyway, one of the traits that I’ve been accused of over the years, accurately to be sure, is overthinking. Not quite paralysis by analysis or outright procrastination (I’ve been meaning to start procrastinating, but I haven’t had time…) but looking at some issue from too many sides. Not unlike Will Hunting in his interview with the NSA (Google it if you don’t remember, some colorful language makes it inappropriate for a link here.) So I’m trying to do less of that and make decisions, more specifically take action, in a more timely fashion. Hence the Git-R-Done mentality.

Want to start eating healthier or exercise more?

Just do it.

Need to save more and invest?

Git-R-Done.

Need to make that phone call or complete a task at work?

Go for it.

Is there something or someone you should distance yourself from?

Start now.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Chinese proverb.

So I’ve been consciously thinking less and acting sooner. Not crazy or reckless, due diligence matters, but not overthinking. If I get it wrong, that will become apparent soon enough and I’ll make changes and adjust course. I have found that the process of doing something towards a task, even if it’s a small something, is very satisfying. Makes me feel like I’m moving forward, a small win towards progress, and that’s good.

So why bring this up and what does it have to do with the WMR? Not sure really, other than I see people, myself included, who get bogged down in details at the expense of the bigger picture. Maybe a little less contemplation and some  proactive steps will get us faster progress.

Here are some people who took action. You’ve heard that old expression something about how everyone complains about the weather but no one ever does anything about it?  Well in Dubai, they’re doing something about it. They’re making it rain in the desert,

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/dubai-is-making-its-own-fake-rain-to-beat-122f-heat/ar-AAMnhiX

Wow. Is there anything they can’t do in Dubai? Tallest building, deepest pool and now their own weather.  To be fair, this technology has been used successfully in the past for ski resorts to make snow, but Dubai is taking it to another level.

Here is this week’s inflation blurb. We all know what it is, we can all feel it in our wallets, but this is a simple and succinct explanation. Contrary to some main stream narrative, the inflation we have now, and will continue to experience, is not transitory.

How do you like them apples?

Inflation blurb #2, guess what has proven to be an offset for rising inflation?

https://www.ishares.com/us/insights/dividend-growth-and-inflation

That’s correct, the constantly rising dividends of the greatest companies in the world. Seems like I should have mentioned this before. Oh wait, I have.

This week’s episode of “Billionaires in Space” featured Jeff Bezos riding his Blue Origin rocket to the outer edge of Earth’s atmosphere.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/07/20/jeff-bezos-space-flight-blue-origin-launch/8013544002/

Rumor has it that his return trip was free.  Get it? Jeff Bezos….Amazon….free returns…..

Man, sometimes I crack myself up.

This week’s first chuckle has some language which could be considered inappropriate, so look up Larry the Cable Guy and Blue Collar Comedy favorite jokes.

This week’s chuckle #2 is also a bit motivational, you’re welcome.
