Weekly Market Review

Weekly Market Review

Good afternoon,

The WMR by MJA, (MBA, CFP®) is abbreviated this week because of the PGA’s RMC at the DGC. OK?

For those keeping score at home, we’ll translate, the WMR is short this week because of the big golf tournament at our home course. OK?

Find more information about the tournament and its associated events here, www.rocketmortgageclassic.com

For any of our friends who plan to attend, text us when you get there and we’ll proudly show you around the place.

We are volunteering at the event so we’ll be in and out of the course throughout the week.

We also continue to have a full time (more or less) job, so we’ll also be in and out of the office throughout the week. Feel free to call/email as usual, but expect a slight delay in responses.

The tournament did not come by surprise at all. We’ve known since last June that we’d be hosting golf’s best for a week in the first ever PGA tournament held in the city of Detroit. The work started last summer and continued through the fall, winter and spring, but really REALLY ramped up in the last month or so. Like a beehive humming near capacity, the activity has been non stop.  From big things like adjustments to the grounds, construction of grandstands and hospitality tents, and arranging for the 2000+ volunteers down to small things like signs pointing spectators in the appropriate directions, having the players names on the correct parking spaces in the lot and the correct lockers in the locker room and enough trash bins for the crowd.

Being a numbers guy, we’re fascinated by the logistics required to pull off this project. There must be thousands, if not tens of thousands, of items to be considered and decisions to be made. From big stuff like where do we put the grandstands down to little stuff like the small red flowers that line the public entrance. Every worker, at least the ones we observed for the last couple of months, seem to know exactly what they’re supposed to be doing. And they appear to be doing it rather well.  Then we remember that there is a PGA event virtually every week somewhere in the U.S. so there must be several more set up and take down crews doing this very work either for an upcoming tournament or for the one that just concluded. Amazing.

What does PGA tournament logistics have to do with the WMR? Well, we like to think that while we may not be qualified to coordinate a week long event for 65 professional golfers, 2000 volunteers and ten thousand spectators, we are qualified for any and all logistics to coordinate financial planning and financial affairs. Yes, we realize the stretch we just made, but hey, logistics is still logistics. Some things we are good at and some things we are not so we rely on help.  Like the PGA partners with DGC, Quicken Loans and InterSport to successfully pull off this tournament, the WMR partners with our planning team, our investment providers, insurance providers, CPAs and attorneys to pull off successful financial planning.

Rather than bore you with more financial jargon, we’ll stop here, invite you to watch the Rocket Mortgage Classic, either in person or on your streaming device, and tune back in to the WMR next week for more regularly scheduled programming.

Have a great week.
