Weekly Market Review

Good afternoon,

I’ve made no secret of my enthusiasm for comedian/podcaster/MMA commentator Joe Rogan over the years. So naturally when he announced 2 standup comedy shows in Detroit several months ago, I was among the first to grab tickets. I attended his Friday night show at the majestic and historic Fox Theater in Detroit.  http://foxtheatredetroit.net/

The Fox opened in 1928 and has had its ups and downs over the years, but under the stewardship of Mike Ilitch and Little Caesars, is now back to its former glory.

Admittedly I’m a big fan of Mr. Rogan’s and a subscriber to his podcast, so I’m heavily biased in his favor already. He did not disappoint. The show was very funny, albeit a little more crude than I expected. To be sure, I did not expect a Disney friendly experience, and I’ve watched all his other stand-up specials over the years, but in person, he pulls no punches. He covered current events, his covid thoughts, his own bouts with cancellation (during which he added 2 million subscribers), his friendship with Elon Musk, his affinity for marijuana, Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard and dozens of other topics over his hour and a quarter show. And it was funny. His two opening performers were funny as well for their 15 minutes each, but that has to be a hard gig. As his openers, you know that everyone there only wants to see him, but they were up to the task and very enjoyable in their own right.

Here is the marquis on the way into the show.
